Try to catch yourself in the moments of everyday life and just for those few seconds bring yourself to the infinite horizon. This is the essence of a spiritual journey, where each breath each movement each sound each moment of your consciousness is walking on that infinite cliff where on both sides of that knifes edge is infinitely up or down and you walk that path, every second that’s always there. But we get caught up in the everyday consciousness. But sometimes just try to catch it and you’ll be amazed that’s its always there with your breath. God is that close.

Breath of fire is a cleansing breath, purifying and energizing and of course just by its name it creates heat. Instead of falling into the collective unconscious, try to rise above, try to experience those levels that are beyond this earthly realm that are real and yet accessible, from your breath, by staying awake and yet falling asleep, crossing that threshold of sleep and wake conscious, sort of like dying while staying alive.

Discerning Intellect of the Yogic Form

We strengthen the body with yoga. We strengthen the breathing with pranayam, the breath. By strengthening the body, strengthening the nervous system it allows the energy to manifest itself. When the kundalini does happen to you, when the energy, the primal force of life, manifests itself in this body the yoga becomes natural. The body automatically does these postures. The breathing becomes natural. It’s a way that programmed chemically into your DNA. Nobody ever gets that and when it does happen, if you’re not prepared, if your body is not strong, if your nervous system is weak it freaks you out. It causes problems, because you’ve been too lax.

So we train ourselves in yoga to be strong, to be radiant, to control the energy, to be awake enough so when that blessing of kundalini does happen that this body and this mind, that you have made up over these years, is strong enough to handle it. You have a matrix of consciousness to handle the experience, because all the sudden you’re going to be confronting infinity. You’re gonna be seeing the light of the universe in front of you. You’re gonna be meeting with Jesus, Mohammed, whoever your guru is. You’re gonna be meeting that form of consciousness. You have to have a stable mind to deal with that, ‘cause what are you going to say? “Hi, how are you?”

The idea is to create a worthiness in yourself, and you are all worthy of that, because you are the same light. There’s no difference in the light that makes up any of us. You have to create that worthiness in your mind so when you have that experience the position of your consciousness merges easy, seamlessly into that infinite consciousness. Otherwise it’s too much for you. Otherwise you’ve forgotten to bring your clothes to the dance. So we train ourselves to be worthy beings of our own light.

Sit in easy pose. Let your breath be relaxed. Now take an inventory of your body. See what is painful. See what is not straight. Try to straighten that out. Try to relax your body. Go inside. Feel any tension. Relax it. Everything is straight and perfect. Go within now. Feel the energy swirling around you. Visual these currents of energy swirling. Feel this double helix of swirling energy, and you’re sitting in it. This is the evolutionary pathway. We’ve added to this helix. We’ve added chromosomes. Through the countless incarnations we built this human form. It’s not an accident. We’ve taken the time to build this human form. We’ve taken the time, chromosome by chromosome to add to the double helix to create this form. Now is the time to use this form, not to fall asleep.

Give yourself a twist right and left. Feel comfortable in this body. Feel comfortable and joyful. In your mind place yourself on infinite horizon, nothing supporting you below. This earth is immaterial, it doesn’t exist. Nothing on either side, nothing above you but the infinite sky. Be sitting in that level of consciousness where you’re floating in your own self. Make the connection with this archetype form that you’ve created over all these incarnations. Feel that same swirling energy of that double helix that you’re following for millions of lifetimes. Sit in the center of that energy with your consciousness. This is the way back home. In the center of that swirling energy of the lights that are spinning around you, the filaments that are being enlightened with your own life, your prana. Sit in the center of that tunnel of consciousness. Look upwards through the top of your head and feel the cathedral of consciousness opening, all the filaments glowing. Through the top of this cathedral of your own self divine light comes pouring down.

Gravity naturally wants to pull the energy down and keep it in our three lower centers, security, sensation, and power. Breath of Fire acts as the bellows stoking the fire within our core, gathering the life force. Learning to use the bandhas (locks) we can stop the flow of prana and allow the heat we’ve built to rise into our heart and higher centers of consciousness. Once there we can notice where we feel pain, or discomfort, and provide it with the energy needed to overcome even the hardest of obstacles.

As you follow your breath and you’re just on the edge of sleep, try to stay just barely conscious. You have to let go of a lot of ego yet you have to hold on to the essence, and that’s when you use the mantra Sat Nam. That sound vibration can carry across that portal, that doorway and that’s the science of Nad Yoga. Nad is the sound current, that vibrational frequency that carries you past this conscious identity self into your real self. That’s why they use it as a mantra.

This class is about the possibility of awakening in this dream. The positions, the mudras the pranayama all add to that equation which allows you to experience the truth of consciousness within your own self. This is the essence of kundalini yoga. We’re here to share with you 40 years of practice that these things have worked for us. And we can tell you from our direct experience the truth.

The class focuses on intention. We will focus on the power of intention in movement and integrity within the asana and the self. We will begin with the breath and incorporate movement as meditation. We will then move into some accessible, but powerful asana and guided visualization, followed by music-assisted relaxation and gong meditation.

The style of the class is Integral Hatha with pranayam, meditation, low impact vinyasa flow focused on strength, integrity and intention. Sukh called it Kundalini/Hatha fusion

Teachers Bio: "I would come back to the asana in times of stress, whenever I needed to still my mind, or I was hoping to foster change. I really began to deepen my practice during my Music Therapy Internship- I found that asana helped to melt away the business of the day and still my whirring mind. The ability to be present to whatever was happening within body and breath became a space of sanctuary; an ongoing reminder to slow down, breathe deeply, and continue on. As I continued to journey, my practice evolved from an experience to an integral part of my day to day.

Amelia is a graduate of Seaside Yoga Sanctuary's Integral Awakening Teacher Training program, earning her Certificate in 2013. Amelia explored meditation, guided relaxation and breath work as part of her Bachelors from Duquesne Univeristy. She has also attended a 10 day Vipassana Meditation course in 2012, and has deepened her yoga studies with Gabriel Benjamin, Melina Mezza, and Christina Sell, Sukhmandir Sing Khalsa, Justin Bench, and many others.

Amelia approaches teaching Asana with a strong sense of alignment and anatomy; she offers modifications, tips and adjustments with sensitivity to the student\'s individual strengths and areas of growth. Amelia\'s background in Music Therapy and work in clinical settings comes through in a hands-on, person-centered approach. In addition to work in the community, Amelia has taught yoga in clinical settings, including forensic and hospital. Amelia currently teaches with Seaside Yoga Sanctuary, offering Hatha yoga, Restorative yoga, Partner Yoga, and a closed, 6 week Beginner Series.

Amelia studied Music Therapy at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2008 with a BS in Music Therapy and a minor in Psycholgoy, then went on to complete a six month internship at Saint Elizabeths hospital in Washington, DC. Amelia obtained the MT-BC credential in 2010, and has been continuing her education and professional development as a Music Therapist, ever since. Amelia co-facilitates a monthly community drum circle with Cathy Rivera, MS, MM, MT-BC in Seaside, CA at Seaside Yoga Sanctuary.

"As a Music Therapist, I work closely with individuals and their treatment teams to develop music-based interventions that align with the goals, desired outcomes, musical preferences, background, and experience of each person. I especially enjoy encouraging clients to explore expression through creation- whether it is through song writing, composition, improvisation, learning an instrument or musical play. Always, we focus on the process of music making- the lessons learned, benefits gained, conversations along the way and personal growth that come are part of that process."
